Overall, the Outdoor Tech OT4200 is a really powerful Bluetooth speaker with a unique turtle shell design that is built for durability and optimal sound performance in open spaces.
The Pros. The OT4200 is an extremely durable speaker with a Turtle Shell design and IPX-5 water-resistance to resist direct splashes of water. The speaker is well-protected from the elements and portable enough to be carried around. It can produce a whopping 110 decibels of sound with an internal battery life of 16 hours of continuous music playtime.
The Cons. While the OT4200 delivers great sound performance, we found the bass response lacking at times (often the case in outdoor spaces). The speaker is not fully waterproof unlike other outdoor speakers with an IPX7 rating (e.g., the UE Wonderboom) and cannot be submerged into water.
We were pretty impressed by how powerful the OT4200 speaker sounded. You can literally crank up the volume on this speaker and it will not produce any distortion; it has enough volume to cover a wide area and still be heard clearly. The highs and midranges are very nicely defined with great attention to detail. Vocal and instrumental performances sounded full-range and detailed; you can really pick up the details in the music with the OT4200 speakers. We also liked the bass from this speaker which sounded full and solid. While the speaker will sound differently when used in open spaces, it still manages to produce a lot of deep bass response which makes listening to bass heavy genres such as electronic dance music a very enjoyable experience. The sound quality that we got from this speaker while streaming music from our mobile device was sublime – the sound performance was consistent and thorough. It is the perfect speaker to take with you for barbecues or gatherings with people in open spaces that can enjoy and appreciate the music from the OT4200.
Where the OT4200 really shines is in its solid and durable construction. The OT4200 features a big turtle shell which covers the acoustic drivers. The speaker itself is IPX5 water resistant which means that it can withstand direct splashes of water without any issues, and are ideal for poolside or beach use. Do note that you should not submerge this speaker entirely into water. The speaker itself has a really solid construction that looks like it can take a lot of abuse. We liked the fact that the speaker comes with a rechargeable battery that provides up to 16 hours of continuous music playtime and can also double as a reserve power bank for your electronic devices. The speaker is designed to be portable with strong handles for mounting or portable carrying. The OT4200 comes with an integrated microphone which makes it easy for your to take hands free calls as well as adjust the volume and soundtracks. The speaker also comes with a charger and a user manual for easy reference.
If you are looking for one of the best Bluetooth speakers with long-lasting battery life and rugged construction, the OT4200 Bluetooth speaker definitely comes highly recommended. It delivers really crisp and well-defined sound performance, with nice treble ranges, good midrange and deep bass performance. The bass sounds tight and punchy which is great for music genres such as electronic dance music – do note that the bass effect largely depends on the environment the speaker is placed in. The speaker also comes with a Turtle Shell cover which looks extremely durable and ready to take a lot of abuse. The speaker itself is IPX5 water-resistant which means that it can take direct splashes of water without any issues. The battery life lasts a good 16 hours of continuous music playtime on a single charge which is really good considering the size of this speaker. The acoustic drivers are capable of delivering a massive 110 decibels of sound which is more than enough to cover a wide area at your backyard or in outdoor open spaces. It is a speaker that is definitely worth checking out especially if you require a rugged speaker to take with you through harsh outdoor elements.
