The Turtlebox Gen 2 is one of the loudest outdoor Bluetooth speakers you can find that is designed for rugged terrain and outdoor adventures. This speaker delivers a massive 85W of output power and can play up to 120dB of sound, making them ideal for blasting music for outdoor parties or in your backyard. One of the key features of the Turtlebox Gen 2 is that it is essentially designed like a tank with IP67 waterproof and impact resistance, and can withstand virtually anything that you can throw at it. The speaker also floats on water if you drop it into a lake, which makes it a great speaker to bring on a boat.

Sound performance

In terms of loudness and sound performance, the Turtlebox Gen 2 delivers up to 120dB of loud and distortion free sound – you can really push up the volume on these speakers and get really loud and powerful bass. Although the speaker is encased in a tight enclosure, we were pretty surprised by how loud the speaker can get and it can easily fill up a large backyard with filling sound performance. The Turtlebox Gen 2 also comes with upgraded 6 x 9 inch woofers that are made from fiberglass speaker cones with rubber surrounds and a high-efficiency driver for deeper bass performance. We played a couple of EDM and hip-hop music soundtracks including JVKE’s “Golden Hour” and “Senorita” by Shawn Mendes and they sounded absolutely amazing with really good highs, detailed vocals and very deep bass. The bass on the Turtlebox Gen 2 punches very deep and you can even hear the sub-bass on the speaker.

Despite the Turtlebox Gen 2’s tight enclosure, it delivers really nice and crisp highs with its 1.5” titanium tweeters. This allows the speaker to deliver really clear vocal performances and you can hear all the details in the music with great clarity. The midranges are present and never muddy, and you can push up the volume on the Turtlebox speaker without hearing any distortion. In terms of sound performance, the Turtlebox Gen 2 delivers really good improvements over its predecessor (the first generation Turtlebox) with much louder volume and more rounded bass response. The Turtlebox Gen 2 delivers up to 120dB of sound which is loud enough to power an entire backyard or outdoor party. You can even watch a movie on the Turtlebox Gen 2 and it will deliver a fully immersive listening experience.

The Turtlebox Gen 2 speaker is really rugged and can withstand any outdoor elements like dust, rain and mud

Design

In terms of design, the Turtlebox Gen 2 is fully IP67 waterproof and dustproof, and can be immersed in water to a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes without any issues. This makes it ideal to bring the Turtlebox to a boat ride by the river or the lake and you won’t have to worry about the speaker falling into water. The one thing that we really liked about the Turtlebox Gen 2 is the new and improved battery which provides a massive 25 hours of playtime on a single charge, and up to 6 hours at maximum volume. The speaker also comes equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity and comes equipped with a Class D amplifier that delivers a tonne of volume output. The entire speaker is rugged and durable with stainless steel parts for corrosion resistance.

Other Features

One of the things that we really liked about Turtlebox Gen 2 is that it supports true wireless stereo sound and you can pair two speakers together via Bluetooth for Left-Right stereo sound performance. The entire speaker is designed to be impact resistance and comes with a top handle for easy portability. The speaker also comes with a power chord for charging, however do note that you will need to use A/C power for charging rather than a battery pack.

The Turtlebox Gen 2 speaker is highly portable and easy to carry with its grip handle

The Verdict?

The Turtlebox Gen 2 speaker is one of the loudest and toughest outdoor speakers that are designed to withstand the outdoor elements. The speaker gets extremely loud, and is definitely on par with speakers such as the JBL Charge 5 or Xtreme 3. It can deliver up to 120dB of sound performance with 85Ws of power, and the speaker also delivers really tight and punchy bass response. The speaker is designed for outdoor spaces and the sound curve is designed to cut through wind and distance so that it can power up larger outdoor spaces, such as a large backyard or outdoor camping area. This speaker is ideal for boating as it is fully IP67 waterproof and shock resistance, making it capable of surviving impacts to the speaker or sudden drops. The speaker is also equipped with a massive 25 hour battery life, although one of the downsides is that it cannot double as a portable power bank unlike the JBL Boombox 3. Overall, the Turtlebox Gen 2 is one of the loudest and most powerful rugged outdoor speakers we have tested and highly recommend them.
